The ubiquitous digitalization seems to have enveloped things that are still made of paper with a sense of nostalgia and specialty. And when their content itself is valuable and aesthetically pleasing, the pleasure of owning and using them is even more complete.
We are pleased to invite you to the exhibition “Calendarium” by illustrator Yana Kazakova, with whom exactly 10 years ago we realized her debut solo performance – “PENCIL”, consisting of illustrations for five children's books. Yana shares that she finds the most freedom in illustrations intended for children, because they do not have the burdened thinking of adults. She draws her inspiration from nature, and finds it meaningful to participate in projects with an environmental protection focus.
In "Calendarium" he will show us 52 illustrations, collected in 4 calendars on nature themes - "Weather", "Birds and Insects", "Trees" and "Mushrooms" with interesting and finely crafted information for each of them.
For Yana, the very process of researching the species she chooses to illustrate is very important. She draws information from a variety of sources, which she checks with specialists in the field, and thus accumulates extremely interesting specific knowledge that one would not think of searching for purposefully. She shares this information through her calendars, because she believes that art, in addition to being visual, should also have a provocative impact, making one think about the world around them and along the way reach new knowledge.
The binding of her calendars is unconventional – each page passes through her hands. Even though it is a “simple” copy of the original illustration, it has additional value because of the quality of the paper and print, as well as the built-in possibility of cutting it out and framing it after a given month to continue its “life”.
You can view the exhibition until 21.11.2024 every weekday between 9 am and 6 pm, and at the opening on 10.10 you can meet the author between 7 pm and 9 pm in the cozy atmosphere of the SOHO Green House.
