The last two anniversary books from the cult Library "Galaktika" have been published. They mark the 40th anniversary of the appearance of its first title. Library "Galaktika" was launched in 1979 at the initiative of Milan Asadurov and became the most frequently published series of fiction before the transition. The reading public is captivated by the texts offered, which are often readable on the border of what was permissible during socialism.
The translator, compiler and ideological driver for the realization of the anniversary books is once again Milan Asadurov, with whom we recently parted ways.
Under No. 122, readers will find the full uncensored version of "The Tale of the Troika" by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. The cover artist of the publication is Dimitar Traichev.
With the last No. 123 is the collection "Antiutopia", in which the only science fiction play in the history of Bulgarian theater, played on a professional stage, is printed for the first time. "Antiutopia" is an author's dramatization of Agop Melkonyan's novella "Poor Bernardie", and the cover artist is Tekla Alexieva, who is the author of all covers up to No. 107.
The creators of the "Galaktika" Library present us with these last two titles and say goodbye with the words: With the publication of the first Bulgarian science fiction play, we hope that we are putting a worthy end to the series, and it is a real pleasure that in the collection we have the opportunity to present to you the works of young Bulgarian writers - laureates of the "Agop Melkonyan" competition for a short fantasy story, in whose hands the future of fantasy in Bulgaria lies.
The books from this boutique edition are not intended for sale. You can pick up up to two copies of a title during the presentation on November 1 at the City Art Gallery – Varna at 6:00 p.m. This is a charity event in memory of the creator of the series Milan Asadurov and is in support of the publication of “Essays on the History of Armenian Literature” – a collection of lectures by the famous science fiction writer, poet, journalist and translator Agop Melkonyan, with whom the series of the “Galaktika” Library closes.
And we invite you to look at the covers of all 123 books in the series, some of which have become emblematic of their time and work. We collected the covers thanks to the SFBG website – a site with information about books in the science fiction and fantasy genres published in Bulgaria.
