“In general, as I have noticed, almost everything in this world looks much better in pictures than in reality.” said Jerome Jerome.

Therefore, but not only, we want to show you the painting of Nanda Benjamin Mentesheva, which is her world and way of being. Named after the peak “Nanda Devi”, which in Sanskrit means “the goddess of bliss”, the young author does not sit in one place at all, but in an eternal journey around the world, capturing the pictures that unfold before her eyes. She even describes her painting itself as a journey. A journey towards herself. And her style as the existence of a direction, but not of a final goal.

With her debut solo exhibition “A World in Color,” Nanda invites us into her home, which is literally on the road between Bulgaria and distant and not-so-distant corners of the world. The focus is on those small, quiet moments in which light is the guide, and colors transport you to the shores of the Greek sea, with its fresh breeze on your skin, as you close your eyes to the bright sun reflecting in the water. A step to the side and the seagulls are replaced by the whistle of a train approaching the central station in Budapest. A little further, the fiesta of the colors of the buildings in Mexico swirls in your eyes. Then you are in the middle of the well-known and beloved Sofia and you wonder if you have come across this very sight or if it is simply your own.

Nanda’s desire is to direct our attention to the small moments that pass by each of us and bring us closer to ourselves.

Nanda is a visual artist – a digital nomad from Sofia. In recent years, she has lived and created mainly between Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Greece, England and Portugal, combining the life of a freelance graphic designer with that of a bohemian artist. Another side of her is her love for the connection between art and technology. Last year, she created an interactive spatial book with light “Svetloson” (funded by the National Fund for the Arts), which will soon be published. During an international residency in Hungary, she created the audio-visual installation “FactorY”.

The exhibition contains 45 digital illustrations printed on art paper, which you can view until mid-November at SOHO.
