The International Triennial of the Stage Poster – Sofia is a guest at GALERIA NOVA
The exhibition reflects the Triennial's desire to bring out of oblivion and appropriately present some of the brightest achievements of the Bulgarian poster. Through the work of 8 remarkable masters of the poster, the Bulgarian stage and visual culture comes to life, artistic solutions and findings that are universal and current become known.
POSTER&MEMORY shortens the distance between generations, makes visible and recognizable iconic examples of poster art and fills a series of deficits, including that of the "dead" museum of applied arts. POSTER&MEMORY is an exhibition and research project focused on authors who laid the foundation of the modern Bulgarian poster - famous poster artists for the older generation and almost unknown to the younger generation. Despite the fact that their works shape the history of the Bulgarian and European poster, their public presence is scarce. Through authentic samples and testimonies, the authors of the project revive landmark achievements, guided by the belief that the quality poster – this multifaceted synthesis between different arts – is always relevant.
Moreover, the content of the collection has been selected in such a way as to encourage new generations of artists to more experiments, to bold and unexpected metaphors and grotesques. The included posters show the richness of the subtext, of the Aesop language, of the background – all qualities inherent in the art of the presented authors.
