On September 29, 2017, the German publishing house eta Verlag presented the exhibition “Papiergeschichten” (“Paper Stories”) by the Bulgarian artist Kapka Kaneva. The exhibition included boards with illustrations for covers for the Spanish publishing house Oxford University Press – Madrid, some paper sculptures for Bulgarian covers for the publishing house “Panorama” – “The Good Soldier”, “Baba Yaga Lays an Egg”, the publishing house “Millennium” – “Judas” and the publishing house “Letera”, as well as 8 sculptures of hearts.

To the general public, Kapka Kaneva is known for her creative paper sculptures, through which she builds illustrative compositions in which she relies not only on color, but also on volume. It is these “sculptures” that she presents in Germany at the invitation of the Berlin publishing house. “Par Avion” by Emanuel Vidinsky is the first publication that eta Verlag has produced, and “Ein fremder Freund” – an anthology of short stories by 17 contemporary authors from Bulgaria, is due to be released on the German market on November 1, 2017 – both with covers by Kapka Kaneva. The main goal of the young publishing house and its founder Petya Lund is to present Bulgarian literature to the German-speaking audience, but as we see not only through our native writers, but also through artists.
