What did we do in 2017?
At the end of the year comes the time for New Year's reflections, balance sheets and promises. And although our site is not yet a year old, (we hope) in the past 8-10 months we have laid the foundations for sooooo many things.
The site began its existence on May 11, 2017, and two months earlier (March 10, 2017), our FB page was launched. During this time, we managed to cover over 100 events, most of which were personal, about 200 news and 6 competitions related to illustration and book art, and 23 artists were presented on the site in the period June-November 2017.

We ended the year with the first exhibition organized by the website “Bulgarian Illustration” – “The Millennium Generation – Illustrators” at the invitation of the Sofia International Literary Festival, in partnership with the National Book Center – NDK, which presented 30 young Bulgarian illustrators working in the country and abroad. The exhibition also provoked the last discussion of the NBC – “The Difficult Meeting with the Bulgarian Publisher”. In turn, the exhibition aroused wide interest not only among domestic illustrators, but also in the media. The event itself was covered in 37 media outlets, including 2 television stations, 1 newspaper, 4 radio stations and 30 websites.

What do we have in store for 2018?
First of all, we start by covering new books with a more critical look at illustrated editions. This section will be separate from the “New Books” section, as the two things are different and it is good to draw a line between them here – criticism and annotation.

Our new column “How is it made?” will begin, which will trace the path that a book takes before it reaches the reader’s hands. Here we will look for different perspectives in the process and take a peek here and there.
We continue with the presentation of the artists, and here we will also give publicity to the publishers, who will present themselves and their work with the Bulgarian illustrators. We will find pros and cons on both sides, so we will also create a separate section for pearls and catchphrases that we often hear in the industry. Anyone who wants to present their work is welcome – write to us!

We will follow the news, events, books and presentations closely, and anyone we have missed or not covered should not feel personally offended – the omission is ours. Therefore, you can send us your news, announcements and events to our email – milena@bulgarian-illustration.com
Last but not least, there are our personal plans related to various articles and events, but for them… when the time comes.

Thank you for the wonderful year we had together, we hope the next one will be even more wonderful. Happy holidays!
