In June, the literary festival Plovdiv Reads will be held for the sixteenth time. The event continues from June 11 to 17 inclusive.
Around 40 Bulgarian publishing houses will offer their latest and best titles in the Plovdiv Book Alley. Once again, 14 tents will be set up on Central Square, filled with the most interesting Bulgarian and foreign literature. For the first year, a special PLOVDIV READS Literary Corner will be set up at the Book Alley. A literary program will be held from 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. from June 13 to 16, organized jointly with the Bulgarian Book Association. Traditionally, most publishing houses are expected to sell their books at a discount.
The Plovdiv Reads team hopes that more readers will participate in the organized meetings with visiting poets and writers, translators, artists, editors, musicians. During the festival, on June 17, Georgi Gospodinov's new book "All Our Bodies" will be presented. A special guest from Turkey is the literary historian and translator Huseyn Mevsim. Other guests include Ivana Soyat-Kuci (Croatia), Luan Starova (Macedonia), and the world-famous American writer Elizabeth Kostova.

The literary program of "Plovdiv Reads" begins on June 10, 2018. The official opening will begin with a welcoming speech by the Minister of Culture Boil Banov (on June 12, at 8:00 PM at the Ancient Theater). Then the prestigious awards "Orpheus Wreath" - for the most prominent poet of the past year, as well as "Golden Brush" - for the best artistic design of a book will be presented. The audience will enjoy famous hits of the group FONDACIYATA with the participation of the great Bulgarian musicians: Kiril Marichkov, Ivan Lechev, Doni, Slavcho Nikolov and Venko Poromanski.
Within the framework of the literary festival "Plovdiv Reads", the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Plovdiv will present this year's national awards "Hristo G. Danov". There are 9 categories (with 18 subcategories), and the passions surrounding the awards and the expectations of specialists and the public are as always high. At the very beginning of the Festival, the Municipality of Plovdiv will announce the next edition of its Program for financing books by Plovdiv authors and important publications for Plovdiv. The "Reader of the Year from 5 to 105" awards will also be presented at the Ivan Vazov National Library.
For another year, partners of the Literary Festival Plovdiv Reads are: the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Ivan Vazov National Library and the Bulgarian Book Association, and the host is the Janet 45 Publishing House. We are waiting for you to feel the pulse of literature in Plovdiv together! The festival is part of the Cultural Calendar of the City of Plovdiv for 2018.
