Favorite Illustrator: Michael DeForge, Tom Gauld, Jesse Jacobs, Tin Can Forest, Jon McNaught, and many others. The world is full of wonderful illustrators. I personally have a weakness for Canadian ones.
Favorite illustrated book? Hmm, that’s a tough question. I don’t have one.
My favorite illustrated books from childhood are Tove Jansson's Moomins, and from Bulgarian illustration at that time, the illustrations by Kiro Mavrov and Viktor Paunov remain in my mind. I think many people from my generation would agree with this.
If I had to say something about the present, I was recently given a wonderful book by Shaun Tan called “The Arrival”. It refers to all immigrants, refugees and exiles. A great gift.
Which book do you dream of illustrating? I have always liked myths and legends, especially eastern and northern ones. Maybe something along those lines. Lafcadio Hearn has an interesting collection of Japanese legends and ghost myths. Otherwise, I would like to create or illustrate a game.
