Two names (and a pseudonym):
Gergana Evlogieva

Introduce yourself in a few words:
In 2023 I graduated from the National School of Fine Arts "Ilia Petrov" with a degree in "Illustration and Book Design".

What is your professional experience so far?
In 2022, I started working at Studio "Zmey" as a 2D animator and to this day I continue to be part of this great team. Working on animated films and series is a great school for me, which constantly gives me new challenges.

Tell us more about your work (style, technique, interests, way of working):
In addition to working on animation, I continue to develop in the field of illustration. The main technique in which I am currently developing is digital. I like the opportunities it gives me to experiment and create. In addition to it, I also like to draw with watercolor and acrylic paints, as well as make sketches with fine-tipped pens or markers. In my illustrations, I like to recreate nature, animals and especially mountains. They are one of my main sources of inspiration.

Exhibitions/participations/performances/awards:
In 2024, I participated in the "Biennale of Illustration" together with many more wonderful Bulgarian illustrators and awarded me with a certificate for an unrealized work. There I presented my graduation project with illustrations dedicated to the mountain and inspired by the texts of Lyudmil Yankov in the book "Dream Beyond the Valleys". I participate in many challenges for artists that are announced on social networks, such as the "Bulgarian Folktales Challenge", where last year I was also one of the hosts. In March, we fill the weeks with illustrations related to Bulgarian fairy tales and folklore and everyone is free to join in and challenge themselves.

Illustrated works:
This year, together with my close friend Mina Gergova, we created our first book together! It's called "Nauzhkim" and it's filled with her original poems and my illustrations. It was my first time illustrating poetry and it was a very interesting challenge. They were done digitally, but they recreate the lightness of watercolor and the texture of a sheet of paper. I hope there will be many more similar projects in the future!

Who is your favorite illustrator?

One of my favorite illustrators is Juan Diaz Canales, who is a Spanish illustrator. I got to know his art through the "Blacked" comic series, which I collect and often read and look at as inspiration.

What is your favorite illustrated book?

"Yan Bibiyan" with the illustrations of Diana Naneva is one of my favorite illustrated books. She is also one of my favorite Bulgarian illustrators!

Which book do you dream of illustrating?
One of the books that I would really like to illustrate is "Avalanche" by Blaga Dimitrova, because it is my favorite and I will have the opportunity to draw mountains and snowy peaks again.
