Borislava Andonova (Bobbo)
Professional experience: Ever since I was very young, I found time to draw wherever I could (the walls at home were regularly decorated :D). However, my childhood hobby turned into a profession in 2013, when I started working as a game designer for a mobile game. After the project was completed, I became a freelance illustrator and since then I have worked on many projects – cover designs and greeting cards, illustrations for a fashion brand as well as many personalized portraits. My goal is to create exciting and memorable characters for each project I work on.
Favorite illustrator: There are many – Heikala, Beomjin Kim, Beatrice Blue, Puba 24, Yvan Duque and Gop Gap.
Favorite illustrated book? For me, favorites and memorable may not necessarily be beautiful and stylized illustrations. An example of this is one of my favorite books, “The Witches” by Roald Dahl. The illustrations for the book are so strange that as a small child I was quite shocked. It was the first time I encountered a children's book where the illustrations were not welcoming and bright but rather roughly sketched and frightening. A book that recently caught my attention was She Made a Monster: How Mary Shelley Created Frankenstein. Very good illustrations for an equally interesting and dark story.
Which book do you dream of illustrating? Definitely Alice in Wonderland, because of the whole surrealism of the book, which is not only exciting to recreate, but also gives a lot of freedom for an artist to interpret. I would also be happy to participate in illustrating a Bulgarian book, I think we have enough material, and a child's imagination is unlocked much better with a book than with a phone in hand.
Website: I don't have an official website, but you can follow me on Instagram where I post all my drawings, as well as videos with my drawing process and many sketches!
