On June 27, 2024 (Thursday) at 5:30 p.m., an exhibition of illustrations from books by the publishing house "Tochitsa" "Think Before You Grow Up" will open at the Art Gallery - Dobrich.
Kiril Zlatkov, Miglena Papazova, Yasen Grigorov, Siyana Zaharieva, Penko Gelev, Kalina Muhova, Vyara Boyadzhieva, Milena Valnarova, Mila Yaneva-Tabakova, Yulian Tabakov, Anelia Pashova, Anna Tsocheva, Anna Georgieva, Alya Markova and Ina Hristova present books published since the establishment of "Tochitsa" in 2010. Books about silence and the ability to speak, worlds of the real and the imaginary, the visible and the absent. We hope that they will speak to both today's children and those who grew up a little thoughtlessly.
The selection of illustrations is by Marieta Tsenova. The exhibition is being held with the support of the "Creation" program of the National Culture Fund. Along with it, creative workshops will be held with Zornitsa Hristova and Yasen Grigorov. At them, children will have the opportunity to invent and draw their own unusual "pet". Maybe he will become their imaginary friend?
When a child and an adult talk between two covers, the adult asks the child that was: “What did you learn while growing up?”
And he really wants to have learned something, something valuable, to tell the children of today. However, the child that was laughs at him a little. And when he listens to him, the adult laughs too. Because the most important things he knows, he knows them from the child.
The artists presented in the exhibition with illustrations from the books of “Točica” present different moments of this conversation between the little and the big. More than twenty artists find their way to communicating with children through books and through images. Each of them tells a story, a plot – related to those of the book, but also containing the reflections of its author about freedom, about laughter, about attention to the world or, conversely, about the joyful inattention of the imagination. About how pleasant the harmony between the individual elements can be – and how invigorating the disruption of this harmony can be!
From June 27 to July 22, in the halls of the Art Gallery – Dobrich you will be able to get acquainted with the art of illustration with “Think Before You Grow Up: An Exhibition of Illustrations from Books by the “Tochitsa” Publishing House “Think Before You Grow Up” and the “Silent Books” exhibition of the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Sofia (from July 4).
