One, if not the largest, international book fair – Frankfurt, we still do not know if it will take place. According to preliminary plans, the book business exhibition should be held from October 14 to 18, 2020, but so far we have no clear position from their side. Here is what Jürgen Boos, director of Frankfurter Buchmesse, said about the upcoming plans for German collective stands at international book fairs. As you may know, Frankfurter Buchmesse is present with an independent stand at many book fairs.
“The Frankfurter Buchmesse (October 14-18, 2020) would like to express its concern for everyone affected by the novel coronavirus. Our thoughts are with all those colleagues in the publishing industry who have been affected. The decisions are being made with the health and safety of our exhibitors and employees in mind.
The Frankfurter Buchmesse team is now rescheduling Germany’s presence as guest of honor at the Thessaloniki Book Fair, which was postponed.
Livre Paris (March 20-23, 2020), London Book Fair (March 10-12, 2020), SXSW Conference & Festivals SXSW in Austin, Texas (March 13-22, 2020), Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (April 15-21, 2020) and the Bologna Children’s Book Fair have all been cancelled by their organizers.
Frankfurter Buchmesse will be organizing its appearance at the Feria International del Libro de Buenos Aires (April 28-May 18, 2020) together with its partners as planned, based on what is currently known and the subject of the decisions taken by each fair organizer.
We are still assessing our participation in the Taipei International Book Fair, which has been postponed to May 7-12, 2020. Participation in the Tehran International Book Fair has been canceled.
The Frankfurter Buchmesse is in constant contact with all international organizations and the German Federal Foreign Office and is closely monitoring developments as they arise.”
