On April 22, 2017 at 4:00 PM, the National Book Center – NDK will hold its fourth discussion. This time the topic will be Compulsory Educational Literature | Discussion.
We are sure that each of us associates the topic first of all with the work “Under the Yoke”, the first illustrations and edition of which you can see published in the post thanks to Milena Radeva.

And here is the announcement for the discussion:
“Is there a place for contemporary literature from the beginning of the 21st century in education? …How can we not stifle interest in reading with the literary canon, which obliges students not only to read, but also to memorize what they must like in the classics in order to get a good grade on the literature exams? Is the tablet more dangerous than turning reading into an obligation? Should we let the market be the only corrective in filling this lack of updating in the curricula?

Participants in the discussion will be Angel Igov – writer and translator; Alexander Sekulov – writer and poet; Alexander Shpatov – writer; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Darin Tenev – lecturer in Theory of Literature, translator and Japanese scholar; Alexander Krastev – “I Read”; Mihaela Petrova – head of the National Book Center – NDK.

With your help and recommendations, the National Book Center – NDK will offer a recommended list of contemporary children’s and youth literature to encourage a love of reading.

Suggest us the title and author of the books that your children read for pleasure at: nbc@ndk.bg“
