The fifth discussion of the NCC was dedicated to the problems of translating children's literature in Bulgaria. The guests of the discussion were Assoc. Prof. Daria Karapetkova - head of the master's program at Sofia University "Translator-Editor", translator from Italian and literary critic; Eva Kaneva - translator from Scandinavian languages and winner of the "Translator of the Year from Norwegian 2015" award; Vera Petrova - translator of fiction from and into Italian, author and director of the "Sofia International Literary Festival"; moderator - Alexander Krastev from the website "I Read".
The conversation focused not so much on the market and publishing point of view of translation, but on its professional subtleties. Assoc. Prof. Daria Karapetkova had prepared a presentation in several parts, which would clearly present the three pillars of translation as art and problematics. The discussion also addressed issues related to whether there is a need for a new translation of an already known text, how the art and language of translators have evolved from the beginning of the last century to today, and whether the profession of "translator" is relevant among the younger generation.
