Welcome to the opening of my exhibition "Under the Language", which is part of the cultural program of this year's Spring Book Bazaar! On the occasion of the Day of Bulgarian Education and Culture and Slavic Writing, the sixty ideograms, along with their definitions, can be seen from May 23 to 28 between 10:00 and 20:00 at the National Palace of Culture (Marble Foyer).

At the end of April 2016, I launched my author's project "Under the Language" on Facebook - a graphic experiment dedicated to the Cyrillic alphabet.

The typographic project explores and transforms the letters we know - at first glance, the abstract letter signs that I depict graphically come to life in peculiar ideograms. Each of the thirty Cyrillic letters not only suggests or illustrates the meaning in a concise way, but also sets the beginning of a different word.

The words I focused on in “Under the Language” are both timeless – frequently used in oral and written speech, as well as established or emerging foreign words, as I believe that they are the ones that have enriched our language the most intensively in recent years and show that it is a living organism that is constantly developing.

In 2017, “Under the Language” went beyond Facebook, growing into a social experiment. After depicting 30 new ideograms, which I introduce to you here step by step every day, I decided to invite 60 representatives of Bulgarian culture – famous writers, journalists, artists, teachers, etc., to give a brief definition or interpretation of the sixty words from 2016 and 2017.
The definitions range from dictionary constructions, aphorisms and poems, to very short stories and impulsive verbal reactions.
All this is expressed not only here, but also in an upcoming book edition, which I will publish on May 24. The typographic book "Under the Language" will publish all 60 ideograms from 2016 and 2017, as well as the definitions of those who took part in the project.
