“A Piece of Sky” is a project that encompasses the study of book arts and an interest in graphics, photography, philosophy, and archival collections in libraries, museums, and other educational institutions.
“A Piece of Sky” is a limited edition handmade author’s book consisting of 12 toner-transferred images interpreting a series of digital photographs of the sky over Sofia between December 2020 and January 2021. The location coordinates are 42°41’42.1” N 23°20’06.6” E.
The project envisions interaction and engagement with the public by providing copies of the publication to the Special Collections of the National Library in Sofia, the Sofia University Library, and the National Academy of Arts Library.
The public is encouraged to participate in the project by sharing additional photographs of the sky at a selected location, sharing the coordinates of the location where the images were taken, and details of the date. In this way, a dynamic, ever-growing database of open-source sky images can be generated. This resource can provide solace and healing to the fragmented sense of community that humanity has experienced due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the associated socio-economic and personal losses of many individuals and communities around the world.
