The specialty "Book, Illustration, Printed Graphics" is one of the oldest specialties at the National Academy of Arts. It combines the long-standing traditions of training in creative professionalism in the field of book design, graphic design and illustration with absolute relevance, adequate to the modernity and innovation inherent in the experiment.
In 2021, the specialty "Book, Illustration, Printed Graphics" celebrates 10 years since the separation of its programs into the master's course of study: "Illustration", "Book Art", Graphic Design", "Font", "Graphic Design of Non-Print Media". Students acquire the educational and qualification degree "Master" through three-semester study programs (duration of study: one and a half academic years) and after defending a thesis. The programs develop at a higher level and in more detail the basic knowledge of the specialty acquired during the bachelor's course.
The master's programs in the specialty provide students with the full qualification to develop:
• individual creative projects in artistic, scientific, and information illustration; pictorial communication in advertising and graphic design, in the field of images in screen media; conceptual art books and bibliophile editions in limited editions; pop-up and alternative author's editions; classic and alternative comics, art zines, animated illustration;
• to form and implement an active publishing policy and strategy, as well as to generate and implement art-management projects;
• to create conceptual author's font works of diverse nature, to implement their developments in the form of finished software products (digital typefaces), to freely and competently handle typographic material in various compositional environments.
• to design and implement interactive products that not only serve different contents, but also are adequate to the level of visual culture of modern man and represent functional and recognizable artistic phenomena in themselves.
Over the past ten years, over 80 students have been trained in the master's programs in the specialty "Book, Illustration, Printed Graphics", who have already achieved success on the Bulgarian art scene, participated in prestigious national and international forums and won numerous awards, and are part of the team of leading publishing houses, graphic and advertising studios.
The exhibition at the Academy Gallery will present works, projects and art objects developed within the master's programs as semester and diploma projects. The exhibition was realized under a project under the program for scientific and artistic-creative activities of the National Academy of Arts for 2021.
