Dog Kingdom playing cards – exhibition and presentation | Българска илюстрация

In this project, APASH illustration / Anelia Pashova / puts all her love for dogs into a new form – a special deck of playing cards called Dog Kingdom. The luxurious deck is painted with elegant dogs and birds, developed using the classic watercolor technique. It contains the standard 52 cards and two additional Jokers.

In the process of work, a stage of maturation occurred, in which the project began to require the illustrator to delve deeper and strive for a perfect expression of the idea, content and form. For this reason, she spent more than a year and a half rethinking and reworking it. Some of the cards were redrawn more than once in search of the right clothes, poses, the best-fitting character, color scheme, etc. All paints have their own color code, symbolism in the details and clothes, body position, matching pairs of King, Queen and Jack, as well as curious hidden elements. The principle of the hair and eye color of each character was observed.

Unlike classic cards, which have their own characteristic and strong stylization, in Dog Kingdom the author seeks vivid images, depicted with the classic watercolor technique, without any computer intervention.

The official presentation of the Dog Kingdom cards and an exhibition of the originals will take place from October 20th to November 20th in the domed space of the Regional History Museum - Sofia /Banyata/ opposite the Central Halls.

The event will be held in compliance with all mandatory anti-epidemic measures, with limited access and mandatory entry with masks.
