As we said before, just because we’re not in Bologna doesn’t mean there’s no Bologna! The world’s largest children’s book fair will be held entirely online this year. Here’s just a small part of what’s coming up over the next 4 days.

From May 4th to 7th, the special online edition of BCBF will feature a rich program of events for everyone. The centerpiece will be the BCBF Global Rights Exchange – a hub for online rights trading, open until the end of the year and created thanks to the collaboration between BolognaFiere and PubMatch.

BCBF also presents its brand new digital exhibition space, BCBF Galleries, featuring a unique program: The 2020 Illustrators Exhibition – presented to the public for the first time – the solo exhibition of Hassan Mousavi, author of this year’s cover of Illustrators Annual, and the showcase for the 10th anniversary of the BCBF International Illustration Award – Fundación SM; and then “Illustrators for Gianni Rodari: Italian Excellence and Children as Spectators”, an exhibition focusing on the connection between early childhood and the performing arts. Finally, the showcase of the Silent Book Competition – Gianni De Conno Award and the book fair of the United Nations SDG Book Club project.

The BCBF online edition highlights its central role in the awarding of the most prestigious international awards in children's publishing: the announcement of the winners of the Bologna Prize for the best children's publishers of the year and the promotion of the BolognaRagazzi Award with video interviews of the winners of the 2020 edition and exclusive book trailers created by BCBF to show the magic of these titles to the publishing community. In addition, the Bologna Licensing Awards, the winners of the Ars in Fabula – Grant Award and the In altre Parole translation competition. Finally, the winners of the Premio Strega Ragazze e Ragazzi, broadcast live, and the announcement of the winners of the Hans Christian Andersen Award will also be made.

All this and much more will be presented in the brand new BCBF online magazine Fairtales – a blog offering constantly updated information about the fair, including special content, interviews and exclusive research.

Here is what the organizers said days before the start, and you can find the entire online program here – Program online edition 2020.

Let’s meet again in Bologna!

Dear BCBF friends,

We are happy to announce that today, World Book and Copyright Day, we officially launch the special online edition of BCBF. From 4 to 7 May 2020, we will gather, albeit remotely, for business meetings and exchanges that we hope will be stimulating and rewarding, despite the unusual format.

These have been hectic but truly satisfying weeks, during which the BCBF team at BolognaFiere, all working from home, have united together with all external colleagues.

As you will see, we have brought online all those special qualities that make up BCBF, creating the same atmosphere, with the added interest of expanding our audience to reach people all over the world, who will now be able to connect and discover the wonderful books for children and the exceptional professionals who create and make them accessible.

And it won't all end on May 7th! The programs and online meetings will continue in the coming months to offer this professional community a transitional center in the months before we meet again in Bologna next year.

Enjoy the book fair!
