On November 17, 2020, despite the global lockdown and the spreading pandemic, we still managed to open the “Biennale of Illustration”. With enhanced anti-epidemic measures and without an official opening, we still launched the exhibition. Thanks to the hosting of the Regional History Museum – Sofia, the exhibition in the “Triangular Tower of Serdica” hall will be open to visitors every day from 10:00 to 18:00, from November 17 to January 17, 2021.
In this (second) edition, guests will be able to see nearly 400 works by 194 artists, created over the past two years. During the “non-opening” yesterday, the awards in the three categories were also presented, and this time there were five awardees. In the “Unrealized Works” category, the prize went to Elena Panayotova, and a diploma went to Lalo Nikolov. In the category "Realized Works" Elena Zhablyanova was awarded, and Lilyana Dvoryanova received a diploma. For her long-term work in the world of Bulgarian illustration, the lifetime achievement award was presented to Petar Stanimirov.
We thank all 231 artists who submitted their works in this difficult year and personally brought and sent their selected works. We appreciate what you did to make the Biennial of Illustration exist, because the Biennial is you!
We also want to thank this year's team led by Milena Radeva, Hristina Grozdanova, who helped make our partnership with the Regional History Museum - Sofia successful, Viktor Alexandrov created the Biennial website and the application form, Nikoleta Gologanova, who compiled the catalog, and Iva Koleva, who edited it. The diplomas are the work of Kristiyan Terziev, with whom it is always a pleasure to work. The awards were produced by Gravoprint, with whom we have been working for years, the catalogue was printed by Artgraf, who always cooperate down to the last .tif in the world, MusicWorld.bg helped us with the sound of the video. Iliya Petrov was an invaluable help during the layout. We would also like to thank the jury, who this year had the difficult task of reviewing 622 works, which included Stoyan Atanasov and Radostina Nikolova. For the media campaign and coverage, we once again worked in partnership with ArunaPR, and localfonts.eu provided us with the Opal font, which is a key part of the Biennale's vision.
Thank you and we will be waiting for you again in 2022!
