The Book Center at NBU is organizing a seminar "Yasen Gyuzelev - a Retrospective", which will be held on June 1, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. in the bookstore of Building I. The event will be hosted by Prof. Dr. Georgi Lozanov and Krasimir Iliev.
The seminar will present the work of the artist Yasen Gyuzelev, who is known to Bulgarian readers for his work on the books "Alice in Wonderland" and "Alice in the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll, "Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi, "Don Quixote" by Cervantes, "Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens and many others.
In 1994, the artist was named Illustrator of the Year for his illustrations in "Alice in Wonderland", and in 2011 he won the "Konstantin Konstantinov" award in the "Illustrator" category at the National Children's Book Festival in Sliven. His style is often defined as influenced by the Renaissance, the realistic schools of the 19th century, through the Pre-Raphaelites to the Secession. However, the illustrator seeks modern viewpoints, angles, light and shadow and surprising compositions.
The event is dedicated to the Year of the Children's Book, an initiative of the National Book Center at the National Palace of Culture.
