Guided tour with the artist during the opening.

Swiss artist and scientific illustrator Cornelia Hesse-Honeger (*1944) arrives in Bulgaria to open her first solo exhibition in Eastern Europe. The exhibition will feature some of the most iconic works from her oeuvre. Situated on the border between art and science, it explores the impact of nuclear radiation on global biodiversity.
The exhibition will feature eight high-quality digital reproductions of watercolors depicting insects collected over the years in areas exposed to excessive radiation – Ukraine, Japan, the USA, the UK, France and others. During the opening, the artist will give a guided tour and introduce guests to the Little Bird Place Gallery to the subject to which she has devoted nearly sixty years of her life.

Cornelia Hesse-Honeger (*1944) is a Swiss artist and scientific illustrator, born in Zurich to the family of artists Gottfried Honeger and Varya Lavater. She completed her studies in Scientific Illustration at the Institute of Zoology at the University of Zurich, where she has worked for more than 25 years. She developed her own style, bordering on art and science, by drawing deformed insects affected by radiation and heavy chemicals. After the Chernobyl accident, she devoted her research to the mutations in insects in the nuclear zones of Europe, the USA and Japan, proving the harmfulness of the so-called “low radiation”. She is the author of scientific publications, co-authored with researchers in the fields of biology and ecotoxicology, and her works have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, including in Zurich, Oxford, Paris, Barcelona, New York and Tokyo.
