In the period 1985 - 1990 he was a full-time assistant in the Department of Drawing of the National Academy of Arts.
He works in the field of graphics, drawing and illustration. In the 1980s he worked with leading Bulgarian publishing houses, published many books for children and adults and collaborated with periodicals. Since 1990 he has lived and worked in the USA. He teaches at art colleges, including Savannah College of Art and Design, University of the Arts (Philadelphia) and Maryland Institute College of Arts (Baltimore). He is Professor Emeritus at Delaware College of Art and Design, where he directed the illustration program for twelve years.
He has had solo exhibitions in a number of museums, cultural institutions and galleries, including his retrospective exhibition at the Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington (2013). He has won awards from national exhibitions, competitions and international forums.
His works are in the possession of museums and private collections in Bulgaria and the USA.
For the artist and teacher Alexi Nachev, it is natural to realize this exhibition at the Academy Gallery - as an emotional connection with the institution that built him as an author, and a memory of his artistic youth.
The exhibition will be opened by the author Alexi Nachev and art historian Filip Zidarov.
