The rainy Saturday day of May 27, 2017, turned into a wonderful colorful holiday in the Marble Lobby of the National Palace of Culture, where the Children's Books Foundation, the Jeanette 45 Publishing House and illustrators Milena Radeva and Romina Beneventi celebrated "Elmer's Day" for the first time in Bulgaria. The colorful elephant, a character from the series of children's books by the British author and illustrator David McKee, is the initiator of the holiday. In the first book in the series, the writer introduces us to the elephant Elmer, who is different from all the other elephants, who are gray, and he is colorful. In order to fit in with the group, he decides to paint himself "elephant gray", and the others decide to become colorful so that they can accept him and make him feel happy. Thus, on May 27, children all over the world dress in colorful clothes and celebrate "Elmer's Day".
During the celebration, Val Stoeva from the Children's Books Foundation read the Elmer's Tale to the little ones, published by Jeanette 45. At that time, illustrators Milena Radeva ("Alice in Wonderland", "Scary Tales for Fearless Children") and Romina Beneventi ("Questions", "Little Creatures" and "Lulu") recreated the story in improvised illustrations, which the little guests of the event also participated in coloring. At their disposal for a wider creative expression was also a huge Elmer, prepared by Milena Radeva and which will be sent to David McKee.
